What has teaching writing taught you about your own writing?
I learned so much from my students! There’s an unfiltered creativity that younger children have that I feel like I have lost touch of but hearing their ideas constantly inspires me as a writer. I am always impressed as to how they are able to connect ideas and come up with novel concepts, and it forces me to be a better writer. I am pretty critical of my work, but hearing how they write and my own response to encourage them makes me more appreciative of creative writing in general.
What surprises you about teaching for WBS?
I had a string of great writing teachers that I believe greatly influenced my love for writing today. Being part of the other side as a teacher made me realize how earnest teachers are when they encourage students to write. I am constantly amazed by the students’ work, and I believe each one has such strong potential that I hope the writing classes can help nurture. I am surprised by how much a strong community of teachers and classmates can affect a student, not only in the subject but other parts of their lives too.
What would a perfect morning (or afternoon) look like for you?

What are some things you love?
Sunset pictures with a digi camera, overcoming writers’ block, late night convos with my friends, vanilla lattes where you can see specks of vanilla beans, DIYing, Florida beaches.
