What surprises you about teaching for WBS?
Something that surprises me about the school that I taught at, Furman Templeton, is that the school environment reminds me of my own elementary school. The hallway and classroom decorations, the group dynamics and interactions with teachers are nostalgic. It surprised me how interconnected the world is and how not much has changed since the time I was in elementary school years ago.
What is your favorite lesson you’ve taught? Why?
My favorite lesson that I have taught is the lesson on figurative language. Specifically, when I explained similes and metaphors, the students were having a hard time generating their own ideas at first. So, I broke the concept down by asking them to name an object, and then to compare that object to something it reminded them of. After that explanation, they used their imagination to create such creative examples. It felt great to teach these kids something new and have them enjoy the process of learning it.
What would a perfect morning (or afternoon) look like for you?
A perfect morning for me would look like going on a Dunkin Donuts run for a vanilla latte with oat milk. Then, I would go on a nice long walk or a run, if I'm feeling up for it.
What unusual skill do you have ?
I can speak Thai! I am not ethnically Thai, but my mother’s family was born and raised in Thailand. So, I have grown up speaking Thai with my family and extended-family when I visit Thailand!
